Vampire Diaries Close to Casting Klaus?

Joseph Morgan is nearing a deal to join The Vampire Diaries as legendary vampire, Klaus, TVLine.com reports.
According to the original casting description, Klaus is handsome, charming, intelligent and the only person who can out-Damon Damon (Ian Somerhalder). The character is often referred to on the sophomore vampire series, because he is one of the Originals. The role would be recurring.
A network rep declined to confirm Morgan's casting.
The British actor is best known for his roles in 2003's Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World and 2004's Alexander.
