Columnist Michael Ausiello has addressed yesterday's 'E! news' with an update in his column:

Question: Certain people are saying that Supernatural isn't coming back next year. Say it isn't so!— Sam
Ausiello: Well, I think "certain people" are jumping the gun a little. My sources put the show's chances of renewal at 60/40 in its favor.

As many people (thank you!) reminded us yesterday, both Kristin and Ausiello are source/gossip columnists, not network execs or true insiders.

But I don't think we should take this with a grain of salt, either.  We do need to keep up some of the promotional work on a grassroots level, and here's an idea:

Have you considered calling the main "Top 40" station (calling or emailing) and asking them to host an interview with the boys or Kripke?  Many Producers/DJs are unaware of the show's existence because of it's timeslot.  I've spoken with a couple of radio personalities I know (people I know would like the show) and they didn't even know what it was about.  So I handed them my copies of the DVDs and told them to watch.

I'm currently trying to get in contact with my Top 40 station to see if they can wrangle up maybe Jared to interview for "Heart" since that's going to be a good episode (with skin, which always sells).  Airdate is 3/22, which gives them plenty of time.

It can't hurt us to try something new, and small--just remember not to spam the station.  :)

I actually just this morning emailed the morning radio show I listen to and asked them if they could interview either of the guys. The show is syndicated in half a dozen places across the country, so if they could actually do an interview, it'd be great. The show's been very responsive in the past, so I'm hopeful. I'd email the local classic rock station, but I'm not as familiar with their set-up, so I couldn't write as effective an email to them. Maybe I'll give it some thought and see what I can come up with. Anyway, I feel better /doing/ something, you know?

Also, maybe you should post this idea to [livejournal.com profile] supernatural_tv as well, maybe with some guidelines about how to write the most effective email possible. Or make the most effective phone call, if that's what you're doing.

Cool! Oh, and not to brag, but I do pretty well at writing these sorts of things. Think it'd be helpful to have a kind of generic sort of email that people can adapt to their particular situation? Or just an example of one way to go about it? If so, you can post the email I sent, or I can work up a more generic one for posting.

And if I'm being obnoxious, just tell me to go away. *g*

Alright, 60/40! Thank you for the new quasi-stats, I'm feeling quite comfy now.

Oh, gosh, no, I'm not talking about copy/pasting anything; I think that's entirely counterproductive. I'm talking more about very general guidelines, like "mention something specific you like about the show, but don't fawn; tell them it'd be great if they could interview X person, but don't beg or squeal; use good grammar and spelling." That sort of thing.

And yeah, I'd be glad to look over letters or emails if anyone wants me to.

For reference, here's what my email said:

Subject: Love the show, and a question

Hey y’all!

First, I just wanted to tell you how much I enjoy your show! I’ve been a loyal listener for nigh on to five years now, and you guys just keep getting better. My daughter and I listen to you every morning during our 45-minute commute, and then I continue listening to the streaming broadcast once I get to work. Aside from how funny y’all are (which would be reason enough to listen itself), I know that I can feel comfortable letting my daughter listen as well, and I appreciate your efforts in that regard.

Now, the question. I know y’all sometimes interview actors and celebrities on the show, and I’m not sure what the process is for choosing who you’ll interview, but I thought it couldn’t hurt to ask if you could interview someone in particular. There is a great show called ‘Supernatural’ (if you’re not familiar with it, it’s about two brothers fighting evil, and it’s on the CW network Thursdays at 9 p.m. – yes, opposite ‘Grey’s Anatomy’. Oh, and it has a GREAT soundtrack – all classic rock) and I’d really love it if you guys could interview either of the actors (Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles). I don’t work for the show or the network or anything; I just think it’s an awesome show with two interesting actors.

Anyway, thanks again for everything you do!

I have tried to email my local morning alternative station and got no where. I keep trying every couple of months, but they never seem to mention Supernatural. Mind you this is in Los Angeles, CA and no one seems to cover Supernatural on the radio it just makes me pissed off.

I will try again :)
