Chapter 3

Monday morning came quickly and Hayley was standing in the middle of a small office, getting the shooting schedule from the producer. She was instructed on the general outline of the show and what she would be dealing with. It had been a while since she had to place fake bruises, cuts, and scars but she figured she’d get the hang of it quickly. she had been given a quick tour of the set and told that they do go on location often and she would need to be very prompt on those days especially. Introductions had been made and names were swimming in her brain without even knowing who was who.

Finally, she was lead to the make up trailer and told that the other artist was there and would help get her started. Upon entering the trailer, she was met with a dark haired Asian woman who wore a bright smile.

“Hi, I’m Jeannie the hair woman,” she said, holding her hand out in greeting.

“Hi Jeannie, I’m Hayley.”

Jeannie informed her that usually it was just the two of them working make up, but when there were more guest stars they had more assistants to help out. She was shown where everything was and helped to set up what was needed for the first scene. She had noticed pictures plastered nearly everywhere in the trailer but hadn’t had time to study them, though some looked to be funny.

All of a sudden there was the sound of loud laughter and heavy footfalls against the metal stairs. Two people burst into the trailer laughing and talking.

“Jeannie!” the tallest one announced, wrapping his arms around her new co-worker. Hayley stood off to the side, waiting for the three people to say their hellos before introducing herself.

“Guys, this is Hayley, she’s taking over for Shannon the next few months.” The tall one (the only one she could really see) moved closer and held his hand out, which she took.

“I’m Jared, I play Sam Winchester,” he said, a warm and friendly smile on his face. He sat in one of the chairs and Hayley turned to meet the other actor only to see a familiar face.

Jensen stood there, shocked at the sight of the woman in front of him. Her eyes were wide in shock and her mouth was slightly open. His mind immediately flashed back to images of kissing those lips and her eyes closing as his hands roamed over her skin. He mentally shook his head to rid himself of those images before stepping forward.

“Hey, I’m Jensen. Dean Winchester.” His voice was clipped in shock and she shook his hand, giving him an uncomfortable smile. She had thought she would never see him again. But of course, the one time she has a one night stand she has to work with him everyday for the next three or so month.

“Hi,” she replied. They shook hands and she couldn’t help the tiny tremor that went down her spine at the touch. She remembered how they felt on her hips and back and chest and it was killing her mentally. She tried clearing her head, knowing she had to be professional about this. She wasn’t about to let anything get in the way of this job. She had no intentions of going back to work at the diner for at least the next three months.

Jeannie and Jared shared a look, both wondering what exactly was making everything so awkward between Jensen and Hayley, but they couldn’t figure it out. Jeannie stepped forward and clapped her hands a few times with a smile on her face, quickly disturbing the other two occupants of the room from their trance.

“Alright, let’s make you two handsome,” she announced, to which Jensen turned and frowned at her.

“Are you saying we aren’t handsome already?” he asked, sitting in one of the chairs.

“Uh…no?” she said, turning away and laughing. The usual banter continued between the three who knew each other well, and Hayley watched the interaction, smiling at some of the jokes. She bit the inside of her cheek as she worked on Jensen’s make up. This was just a little too weird for her. She worked in silence and whenever their eyes met she blushed and looked away.

By the time the two men left, Jeannie was giving her odd looks and she was far more tired than she probably should be. She needed to call Megan.

Later in the day, Jeannie was out in the studio and Hayley was sitting in the trailer, looking at the pictures and familiarizing herself with everything so that she could move quicker next time. She was currently staring at the pictures of both Jared and Jensen wearing different wigs and hamming it up for the pictures. She heard the door open and close but didn’t turn, thinking it was Jeannie.

“We get really bored between shots,” a quiet male voice said, taking residence next to her. She was frightened by the low timbre and jumped lightly turning to face Jensen. She gave him a tight smile and turned back to the pictures, finding it easier to face photographs of him than the real person.

“I can tell.” She took in a deep breath and turned around to face Jensen, unsure of what she was going to say or do. “What’s up?” she asked, moving around the area to gather what supplies she could in case.

“Nothing, I just…” Jensen’s words stuck in his throat. He had never been faced with anything like this before. She stared at him, waiting for him to continue and he once more mentally shook his head. “I have no idea, really. I just wanted to say sorry for…”

“The awkwardness?” she offered, laughing a little. He smiled and nodded, shoving his hands deep into the pockets of his jeans. “Yeah, I had no idea I would be working on this show until the day after. And I still didn’t have a clue you starred in the show until today.”

“Yeah. This is…weird. And I’m not really sure what to do.”

“Me neither,” she replied. They both sat down in the chairs and faced each other, a safe distance away. Silence swept over them once more, both fidgeting nervously until Hayley got up the courage to speak again. “Well, we’re both adults. I’m sure we can get over the awkward and work just fine.”

She sounded so convinced she could do this and Jensen just nodded. “Yeah, you’re right.”

They smiled at one another and sat in yet another silence before Jensen stood up. “I have to go back to set, but…I’ll see you around.”

They said quick good-byes and Hayley was once more left by herself. She had no idea what just happened or how their little conversation would change anything.

Jared watched Jensen leave the make up trailer and gave him a quizzical look.

“So, you wanna tell me why you two were so awkward?” he asked his friend.

“Remember how I went out Friday night?” Jared nodded and waited for Jensen to continue. “Well, I met her there and…” He paused, trying to find a way to phrase what happened so he didn’t make her sound cheap, because he knew she wasn’t.

Jared’s eyes widened and he almost burst into laughter. “No. You didn’t.”

“Yeah, we did.” There was a shocked silence from Jared, and Jensen just stood there, slightly embarrassed.

“Well, this should be amusing,” Jared commented, lightly pushing Jensen out of the way as they made their way back to the set.

“Yeah, for you maybe.”

“Definitely.” Jared gave him a wide grin and Jensen groaned, knowing this was going to be hell.
