By Dave Itzkoff
Teenagers are mopey, and vampires are mopey, but Summit Entertainment is extremely upbeat about the prospects of its teenage vampire franchise. One week before the release of “Twilight,” its highly anticipated film adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s novel (about a mortal girl who falls in love with a youthful bloodsucker), Summit has acquired the film rights to “New Moon” and “Eclipse,” the second and third books in Ms. Meyer’s book series, the Hollywood Reporter said. Melissa Rosenberg, who wrote the screenplay for “Twilight,” is expected to write the scripts for these films as well. The soundtrack to the film version of “Twilight,” which opens on Friday Nov. 21, has already hit No. 1 on the Billboard chart, and numerous opening-day screenings have sold out through advance ticket-sales Web sites.
