'Vampire Diaries' poster reminds us 'betrayal burns' -- EXCLUSIVE

Another week, another new Vampire Diaries poster to promote the show during sweeps. But this one is hot in more ways than one…

For starters, there is that actual fire. I assume that signifies more than that the woods around Mystic Falls will be seeing more action. In the world of vampires and witches, fire means death (or, you know, at least the torture of impending death until you’re saved).

The smoldering looks are a given. (Pause to admire Elena’s eyeliner.) And then, we come to the fashion choices. If I’m gonna go all Doc Jensen on you, Elena and Damon are both wearing leather. Does that mean they’re the team that betrays someone, or that they’re a team that betrays each other? Or, do they both just look really good in leather?

The biggest mystery, of course, is what Stefan is wearing. Is that a zippered hoodie with no shirt underneath? That makes slightly more sense than if it’s actually a leather jacket with a soft hooded lining and no shirt underneath. At first, I wasn’t a fan, but then, the longer I looked at it, the more it reminded me of something sporty bad boy Rob Lowe could have worn in 1984′s Oxford Blues, and I came around.

What’s your analysis?

UPDATE: I didn’t address Damon’s stubble earlier. Crossing my fingers that it hints he’ll go on another bender and not that we won’t be seeing him shave shirtless in his bathroom.
