i DID it!!
Feb. 18th, 2009 03:50 pmfirst, my internet is intermittent (grrr), but hopfully i'll be back posting at my dragons at my usual night time slot, somewhere during the 10 p.m. EST hour.
second, i've been working on a project for the past 8 days, since February 10th, when i bred my little orange magi egg. if you recall in my posts, the magi sprite was posted for views only - you couldn't click on them.
when i first started at the Dragon Cave, someone told me about a Minty Project, where the person was attempting to hatch an egg and grow up with zero clicks. later on the DC Forum, someone posted a screencap of a winter dragon that had grown up with zero clicks.
the question is simple: are clicks needed for a dragon to grow up? I wanted to see if i could do it myself.... and i DID!!
the first screencap is from when the egg hatched - i wasn't on line when it happened, but i was about an hour later.

and this screencap is from this afternoon -

some tips if you want to try this:

some tips if you want to try this:
*about a week prior, stop posting links to your scroll. people love to click, so if they see a Zero, they'll want to click on the dragon. you don't want your scroll link anywhere.
*only copy the <*img src=""> tag (no asterisk) - it's just the image of the egg or hatchling.
*do not post the egg or hatchling to fansites like Eggs Will Be Dragons or the DC Fansite. it'll end up getting clicks there. i'm a member of 9 LJ comms, 7 are listed in the userinfo here, which is where i posted. i also posted the image in my own LJ, and just thanked people if the image loaded on their screen. (today's message said "if the orange dragon loads on your screen, thanks!") it really is that easy. reloading that one entry will give the sprite views, too.
*it's easier if you've bred the egg, this way, you click on one of the parents, and then where the parent has "Children" listed, click on the code. you won't give it a view or a click this way.
*it takes patience. the egg got down to 3d 1h or so, the last i saw the hatchling, it had 3d 2h.
*good luck!

Date: 2009-02-18 11:23 pm (UTC)For me, I just come to the hatchery, refresh the whole page a couple times, go to the next page and do the same. That way people are getting two or three views out of me (depending on how many times I refresh) which is way better than a single click.
On FireFox you can even set a page to refresh every minute or five minutes, etc. so someone else I know (on that other clicky site) sets hers to refresh every 15 minutes when she goes to work. That way, all of us get multiple views throughout the day and no one even has to be there to hit refresh. It's really nice. I've just downloaded the Modzilla add on to do that too and I'm going to start doing it when I go to work each day also. Multi-views = dragon baby love. LOL

Date: 2009-02-18 11:30 pm (UTC)oh believe me, i know! when i started posting the image of the egg, i got a few comments that said "your coding is broken" or something like that. i just said i'm working on something. heh. but you're right, for as much as people like to click, it's not really necessary.

oh i refresh the whole front page a few times... LOL. but i just let all the images load, and i'll go to the posts sometimes to give extra views too.
awesome on the autofresher - do you have a link for the addon?

Date: 2009-03-04 04:49 pm (UTC)just today, someone asked me if clicks speed up the process. they might, but i don't keep track... and this was fun to do. :)
repeat views slow down the growth it seems (again my experience)
hmmm, interesting. this is something i haven't tracked.... i guess the thing is, it really does vary how you play, what dragons you have, and where you post. i post in 9 LJ comms, my own LJ at times, and one fansite, maybe 2.
