A new fan discovers SN
Apr. 22nd, 2007 03:42 pmOne fateful Thursday night several weeks ago NBC was showing several repeats of The Office that I'd already seen several times. So I changed the channel. I stopped on a show that I'd never seen or heard of before. I am just shallow enough to admit that I stopped because I saw two hot men. :) The show was half over at this point and I found myself starting to fall asleep. The next morning I asked my roomie, who, from her LJ name alone, is a self-described TV addict, if she happened to know what I could have been watching. She said it sounded like Supernatural and she'd heard good things about it but had never watched it herself. She'd planned too though that next week because someone from Battlestar Galaticia was going to be on it.
Curious I got the first disk of the first season's DVD set from netflix that weekend. Roomie sat and watched it with me. Later that weekend she ended up buying the first season.
Finally there was a show that I could actually get excited about watching - most of my favorites have gotten plain eh - 24 has been mediocre at best this season, Lost has gotten annoying, the list goes on and on. I haven't made it through the first season DVD's yet and have only seen a couple of the current season but my excitement about the show only grows. I love that I can see pieces of my own baby brother (although he's 24) in each of the characters and that I can see my relationship with both of my siblings in them. I like that things that are supposed to be black and white have now been tinged with shades of gray and they are learning how to deal with that. I love the raw emotion they unapologetically allow Dean and Sam to show especially in a time where it can still be concered taboo for men, espeically that age, to do so. Oh okay fine, and they are both hot :)
I fully admit that I watch way too much TV but I would give all of my shows up in a second if I were left with this as my only option. I've gotten several people I work with watching the show and my roomie's DVD set is being rotated among them. A co-worker has been watching them with her twin 14 year old boys. The two disks she borrowed ended up being a substitution for grounding when one of them wasn't getting homework done. She told him he couldn't watch the rest of the disk with her and his brother if the work didn't get completed. It worked :) She joked with me that I have to seriously ration the rest of the season between now and the end of the school year :)
Now if you'll excuse me I'm going to go watch and see the boys take on my old home state of MN :)
BTW - it's nice to be part of this group - I look forward to getting to know you guys - have a great week!
