The room was silent as the prisoner was led in.
He stumbled slightly as the guard behind him pushed, but was able to keep himself from falling. At least they had tied his hands in front of him; he didn’t need to injure himself any more than he already was. He could feel the swelling on the side of his face and knew there was a cut somewhere on his head as, at one point, blood had run into his eyes.
He could hear her crying, somewhere in the distance, but couldn’t pinpoint exactly where the sobs were coming from. What had they done to her? DG never cries. Gets angry, yes; but cry, never.
“Wyatt Cain,” a voice said, filled with venom and disgust.
He turned his blue eyes to face the voice that he recognized immediately.
“Zero,” Cain said through clenched teeth. “How did you get out?”
“You should know by now that I have ways for everything,” he spat out before backhanding Cain and sending him falling to the ground.
DG screamed as Cain hit the ground and tried to struggle out of the hands of the people holding her.
Zero grabbed the back of Cain’s shirt and pulled him back to his feet.
“Bring the Princess,” Zero ordered.
As they brought DG into the light, Cain could see that her clothing was almost torn from her body and that she was bloody and bruised.
“What have you done to her?” Cain asked, with malice toward Zero.
“Nothing she didn’t want,” he said, smirking and wrapping his hand tightly in her hair, causing her to cry out.
That was the last straw for Cain he.
Not one to surrender he looked around quickly to see what he was up against. He knew DG was a fighter, but in the condition she was currently in, she wouldn’t be able to do much. There were only four Longcoats and, once steady on his feet, Cain waited until the guard grabbed him again before putting all the force he could into bringing his head backward and catching the man right in the nose.
The guard screamed and held his nose as he went down on the ground; Cain spun himself around to kick the guy while he was down, knocking him out.
One down, three to go.
Cain took the next down without a problem; the man had no time to react with a pissed-off ex-Tin Man barreling down on him.
As soon as Zero realized what was happening, he grabbed DG and took off. She screamed for Cain the whole time.
Cain looked to see which way Zero had taken his Princess, only to have the wind knocked out of him by the third guard, whom he had forgotten about once DG started screaming.
The fight seemed to take forever as DG’s screams got further away.
With a burst of energy he didn’t even realize he had, Cain took the last guard out. He had to get his wrists untied and searched the last fallen Longcoat for a razor or knife; anything to cut the rope with.
He found one and sliced the bonds, cutting his hand in the process. But the pain was not going to stop him now.
Getting to his feet, Cain ran down the hall after Zero. He let him live before; this time, he would not make the same mistake.
Gods, please let her be okay. I cannot lose her, also, he thought as he ran after them, razor still in his hand, praying to the gods that his princess would have the courage to hold on until he got to her.
