Fandoms... have you ever left one?

X-Men has been a life-long obsession of mine. Since I was a kid. For me it was the cartoons that got me into the fandom. Then I got into the comics. Life was great. I met so many NICE and kind and interesting people who shared my obsession of these characters.

But alas, it wasn't meant to last. Ever since the X-Men movies came out a ton of assholes have also became interested in the fandom, and they do so much assholering.

I've met people in other fandoms who wre chased out by assholes and I never did understand them giving up on their fandom, their long-time obsession, until it happened to me. Within a year now I've been harrassed and flamed and trolled and stalked and accussed by two asshole X-Men fans and I swear...

...it may be a life-time fandom for me, but I've had it. I'm ready to put this fandom into retirement. I can't take much more harrassing from these two losers or the trolls who'll come after they finally, if ever, letitgo!

Hmm, so it's not really that you've outgrown X-Men; more that these two jerks are making that fandom unbearable for you. Is it at a particular site or group or do they seem to be everywhere? I was just wondering if you can join other groups or even rejoin that group under a different user-name. It's just a suggestion.

On the other hand, perhaps you still like X-Men, but just not enough to put up with being harassed by these two.

I haven't had any really bad experiences like that, but I can see how it would put you off something.

Oh believe me I try! But I'm being stalked by the one. Everywhere I turn she's either already in the group, or shows up shortly after I've joined (I check each one I join to see if she's in it or not). Really, is her life so sad that she has to follow me around to make sure I can't enjoy myself in ANY of these places?

I still love X-Men, but I'm ready to give it up if it means these two will leave me alone.

Yegads, what a nuisance! Sounds like she needs help. Some people really go off the deep end.

Maybe you could start your own discussion group, like at Yahoo, and then as 'owner' you could refuse to let either of them join the group.

Harry Potter...I left it before the last book came out. I got tired of swimming through the Sues and Stus. Though erinm4600 is trying to get me to finish my app for hogwarts_elite...

I've had to recently leave the KISS fandom for a long leave of absence. As of 2005 I stopped all my major activities on all my usergroups on yahoo, and stopped writing and drawing anything related to the rock group. Before then I had been going to the conventions a lot and posting a lot of fanfiction, but I got burned out. Not to mention all the stories were the same, and all the conventions were the same stuff. Also recent changes in the band have really gotten me pissed off.

It had a good run of a number of years. I've written dozens of long fanfiction and drawn multiple images that I still have on my site. That's one reason why I had to leave it. I miss people still in it, and may one day return but I just needed to get out due to some annoying fan situations. I even ran into my share of trolls from time to time. The only thing I'm keeping open is my website because so many KISS fanfic websites have gone under and I don't want to deny people the chance to read the fictions I have warehoused there.

Don't feel bad leaving the fandom. I've been in and out of X men fandom, and frankly while some aspects of it are great there's not enough to really hold me there. That's why I've mainly stayed in DBZ fandom right now.

I have so many interests and have been involved with different fandoms from time to time. But when things got bad with other fans being asshats I picked up my toys and left when it ceased to be fun. Then if I felt like coming back in a few years I did. If I found that the fandom was still a pain in the a$$ I would hang it up.

I don't blame you at all. Get out of it, and find something that's fun. There's no sense in staying in a fandom run by trolls and a$$hats.
