Some background for those of you don't have the DVDs. The actors HAD to do a ten day boot camp where they learned how to be soldiers. They weren't allowed to use their real names, only their character name. They learned everything that they would need to know for the film so that they would look like real soldiers instead of actors pretending to be soldiers. Apparently Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg told Capt. Dye not to make it pretty - well he didn't. From what I saw, it was pretty apparent that Neal was giving it 150%. If there was an award given for the "best recruit at actor boot camp" I have a strong feeling that Neal would have won.

2.
This was hard to cap because Ron was running as well.
3.
4.
5.
This was a cool part. Ron had to hold a push-up while "Tipper"? put his rifle together (the sergeant is holding the camera). The rest of the squad joined Ron on the floor so that he wasn't alone.
6.
The atomic sit-up
7.
8.
That's Capt. Dye in the white sweatshirt. Neal's getting ready to call the commands.
9.
Neal lends a helping hand while yelling, "Up, down, up, down..."
10.
11.
12.
Job well done.
13.
The caterpillar push-up. Neal is at the bottom of the picture. He was one of the anchors.

16.
17.
Boo-boo
18.
This was hard to cap because Neal does this cute head bobbing dance. Ron is saying that Neal was "GI Joe".
19.
20.
21.
22.
The actor that played Doc Roe sutures him up.
23.
Ron asks him if it hurts. Neal says, "I'm Buck Compton, baby."
24.
25.
Eventually they had to take Neal to a hospital. They were afraid that the boot camp would get shut down so apparently they kept the trip to the hospital from the insurance company. They didn't want to quit.
26.
Two stitches and no anesthesia because he's Buck Compton.
27.
Off to lead his platoon in battle.
28.
Looking a bit confused.
29.
Capt. Dye tells Neal and the others what the platoon did right. Which according to Ron was a rare thing.
30.
They had to spend the night in this half-finished house to simulate a bombed out shelter.
31.
Neal looking at Damian who is snoring very loudly.
32.
Ron asks Neal, "Is this day six?"
33.
Neal: "Day twenty."
34.

Spit shine!
36.
37.
38.
Tells a story of how he and his platoon had trouble getting a truck started.

54.
Apparently Weapons Platoon was performing very well. Ron asks "Lt. Compton" if they were ready or how well they will jump.
55.
Neal says, "I'm Big Ben, I was on time. I'm ready to kick some ass."
56.
57.
58.
The tower they had to jump from. Unfortunately there were no shots of Neal jumping. They did use a safety harness but they still fell at a pretty good rate.
59.
The boys earn their wings.
60.
61.
62.
63.
I think this is actually Damian getting his wings, but I wanted to show what they look like.
64.
65.
I think that's Neal to the left of Capt. Dye.
66.
Capt. Dye gives his last pep talk. Very moving. Neal is looking at Ron after making a comment that he had filmed his speech.
67.
68.
69.
Can't tell why Neal looks purple but he was the only one that did.
70.
71.
72.
Neal meets a veteran. I think it's either Toye or Guarnere. This was at the premiere of BoB which was held on the anniversary of the Invasion of Normandy.

Date: 2008-02-21 10:53 pm (UTC)I love behind-the-scenes stuff too. They're usually the first thing I watch when I get a DVD, if they have it. Drives my family nuts.
You're welcome. ^_^
