It's interesting that Sam is the one that can see good in things (long discussion in Faith) and Dean can not. I Don't think Dean would believe an Angel if is came up to him pulled out a golden trumpet and said "Fear not" - or a flaming sword and said 'feel His vengeance'. On the whole angel/demon Sam thing... Angles and Demons don't have free (well Demons do to some extent- hence the they are not angles anymore) will Humans do - Sam will always have a choice, it's not that he doesn’t save people it's that he CHOUSES to save people.
I Still say Dean is in just as much jeopardy - for the exact same reasons. Even is Kripke says we will find out why Dean isn't 'special' by the end of the season, the fact remains he IS special - even if it is just as Sam's version of Judas - you know betray me when I say to - and like Judas Dean would never survive that - wow that would make a good 'it was all a vision’ story
Her response:
I think they're both special in their own way.
and the Demon was really, really dumb in telling John that D&S weren't a threat.... hmm....
Bodgei:
I think the demon just said that to upset John. I think that Dean and Sam were more of a threat when Dad was alive (well in some ways) because if the three of them had ever gotten on the same page - they could have taken care of anything.
On the other side Sam is now SO committed to the Hunt that he is much more of a threat - but he also seems to be less careful (and he was the more careful of the boys) make him also more of a threat to himself and Dean.
Also now that he is so worried about going bad he may start to see things in more of a black and white view - and honestly (IMHO) his seeing the shades of gray is part of what keeps him good. Sam sees good in (almost) everyone, where Dean doesn’t.
I guess I'm saying: Demon said that to John, John sacrificed himself removing John as a point of irritation from Sam. Sam has turned that irritation and anger and guilt in on himself possibly giving the Demon a way to get to Sam. OK it's a stretch but I'm trying to think like a demon here.
Her:
believe it or not, it makes sense!
Me:
Hey, the demon had a win win going on there.
It probably would have been better for the demon if Dean had died - but maybe that would have pushed Sam too far - but then again Sam has proven he would do anything to keep Dean alive. I could see him trading himself for Dean in a heartbeat.
Now I'm wondering why Dean thinks his family doesn’t need him as much as he needs them. Obviously they do. Both are willing to do extraordinary things for him - both would willingly lay down their lives for him.
Sam's whole thing about 'you'll kill me when I stop being me' is probably as close as he's ever gonna get to saying what Dean needs to hear 'I'm glad Dad died because I need you more then I needed him. I love you and I trust you to do the right thing for me.'
It's funny that Sam seems incapable of saying how much he needs and loves Dean, since Sam is the one who got verbal proof of Love from John. It was always Sammy or Kiddo and John was so much... gentler when talking to Sam. But yet Sam (the emotional May Fly) can't seem to do that for his brother - who really f-ing needs it right now.
