The first month flew by in a flurry of activity. Hayley had quickly learned the ropes of the show and things were going really well for her. She got along with everyone she worked with, and things between her and Jensen weren’t as awkward as they were before. There were still times when they became uncomfortable with one another, like the time she was applying fake blood to his bare chest and back. The entire time, all she could think about was the night she had spent with him. When she was finished, she locked herself in the trailer.

Jared had come in a while later and teased her mercilessly about it, but she knew he was only joking. Still, the blush crept across her cheeks as he teased her and told her how Jensen was blushing as well. She had quickly ushered the tall man out of the trailer and gone back into hiding for a few hours that day.

After that day, things had gotten back to normal between herself and Jensen. Well, as normal as it could get. It was actually nice. They learned a lot about each other, spending time talking about their families and their backgrounds. They were more alike than they had originally thought and found themselves spending more time with one another. At first it was just on set. Sometimes Hayley would hang out with him and Jared in someone’s trailer or on set. They all had a lot of fun joking around.

Then Jensen had started hanging out in the make up trailer with Hayley and talking to her for hours while they waited for a light bulb to be changed or for something to arrive for the shot. Most of this time was spent in deep conversation that included things they hadn’t told many other people except for their closest and dearest friends.

She saw the quieter side of him that not many people had a chance to see. It was obvious that when he was out in the public eye he was more talkative, but she still saw him reserved in those situations. When it was just the two of them, though, they could sit in silence for an hour or more. Both going about their own business in the company of one another.

This was one such day. It was raining outside and Hayley had stayed cooped up inside the trailer trying to organize the various bottles of make up that were scattered all over the place. Jensen walked in silently and sat in one of the chairs, staring down at his hands in his lap. She stopped moving bottles and looked over at him, staying silent. He hadn’t said anything to her, so she went along with it, remembering that they were filming a difficult scene for him. She gave him a small smile and turned away once more to give him his space. He would talk to her when he was up to it.

After many long, silent minutes Jensen looked up again. A soft, sad smile graced his face and she smiled back at him.

“Did the shot go well?” she asked quietly, hoping he wouldn’t have to go back into whatever dark place he went to when he had to be so emotional.

“Yeah.” His voice was rougher around the edges than usual and she knew he hadn’t completely left that place yet.

“I’m glad.” There was more silence and it was killing her how sad he looked, so she picked up the conversation. “Well, I’ve spent the past two hours trying to get reorganized after you and Jared decided to sample every bit of make up we owned last night.” With that remark, Jensen laughed, his demeanor brightening a tiny bit. “You do realize I have pictures of the event, right? I have potential blackmail in my apartment right now.” He laughed and she was relieved to hear true happiness in the sound.

He stood up and helped her for a while, glad to get his mind off of the emotionally intense scene he had just filmed. He asked where to put some sponges and as she was on her way over to him, she tripped on a stray foundation bottle and stumbled forward. She let out a small surprised cry and Jensen turned, moving forward to catch her. His hands wrapped around her upper arms and he helped right her, only for both of them to pause and take notice of how close they were.

Jensen took this time to notice the intricacies of her face. Her eyes were a cobalt blue with flecks of lighter blue around the edges that seemed to hypnotize him for a moment. She wore a light blush that was partially hidden by her blond hair falling in front of her face and her bottom lip was caught between her teeth; a flash of white between pink. He loosened his grip on her arms but didn’t let her go. Instead his hands smoothed their way down her arms until he was holding her hands in his own.

Hayley’s breath nearly caught in her throat when she stared into his eyes. They were an intriguing mix of green and brown and she also noticed the smattering of light freckles on his nose and cheeks. She refused to look at his mouth, already knowing where her thoughts would take her. His grip was warm and steadying and now he held her hands in his. This moment was something that she was sure she never forgot, even if nothing happened.

Jensen felt the incredible urge to kiss her. It was overwhelming everything else around him. Leaning forward slightly, he watched her eyes flutter shut before he closed his own eyes. Their lips met softly and Hayley swore the world around her stopped. She hadn’t thought this would happen again after that one night, and somewhere in the back of her mind she knew this wasn’t right as they worked with one another, but she didn’t care. One of his hands left hers and cupped her face as their lips continued to glide together.

It was nothing more than a long, chaste kiss, but it left them both breathless. When they pulled apart, they stared at one another, neither sure of where this moment was taking them.

“Jensen…wh-” she started, but was interrupted by Jensen.

“I don’t know. I have no idea what’s happening.” They continued to stare at each other, his thumb absently running across the back of her hand. The motion was comforting, and Hayley found herself focusing on the feel of it. Everything that had just happened was sinking in and she realized that she could easily kiss him again. She’d just have to lean forward a few inches and their lips would be connected once more. She didn’t though, waiting for Jensen to do or say something that would give her a clue as to what he was thinking.

There was more silence for a few minutes and she almost wanted to break away and get back to normal. Or to at least let there be some conversation because she was starting to freak out. The last thing she wanted to hear was that he made a total mistake, but she steeled herself for that reaction just in case.

“Jensen?” she asked, breaking him out of his trance. His green eyes focused back on her face. “What are you thinking?”

“I was thinking that I really like you.” He watched as her cheeks turned pink under his words and smiled softly at her. “And I was thinking that I would like to see you more often. Off set.” He waited patiently for her reply, knowing that she hadn’t expected anything like this. He had been thinking of this for a while now. He knew Hayley really well, and she could read him just as well, if not better than certain people he had known his whole life.

Hayley’s mind was working at lightning speed. In the back of her mind, she knew that this as a one night stand gone awry, but not in a bad way. Jensen was an amazing person and they got along very well. He was obviously attractive and she found her eyes drawn to him whenever she was near him. She couldn’t truly explain it, but she knew she was glad she had gotten this phone call for a reason other than her crappy job at the diner.

“What are you thinking Hayley?” he asked, near mocking her question from earlier, but there was no joking in his voice.

She took a moment to organize her thoughts before looking him straight in the eye. “I’m thinking that I really like you too. And I would like to see you more often. Off set of course.”

She smiled at him and his eyes became brighter. His hand came up to cup her cheek and he leaned in to kiss her lightly, making her heart flutter. Things felt right between them as they stood together, and they both realized that this could be something really amazing, even if they did get off to an odd start.
