Need some good TV news? HBO has renewed "True Blood" for a second season. Yippee.
"True Blood" is my choice for best new series this fall -- of course, TV critics haven't seen everything, so keep that in mind. But "True Blood" is swell, especially if you like vampire stories....
"True Blood" screens at 9 p.m. Sundays. Alan Ball of "Six Feet Under" created the series, which is based on Charlaine Harris' Sookie Stackhouse novels.
Oscar-winner Anna Paquin plays Sookie, a waitress who can read minds. She is attracted to Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer), a 173-year-old vampire who served in the Civil War. One attraction: Sookie can't read his mind. (Paquin and Moyer are pictured at a recent party.)
Production on a second season starts early next year; the second season would start next summer.
"True Blood" debuted Sept. 7 and has attracted more than 4 million viewers to date. The second episode's audience jumped 24 percent. So the renewal isn't a surprise, but it is good news. Let's hear it for Sookie. You can catch the third episode this weekend.
