here's the deal. as a rule, i don't read Wincest. i've read... three. and two of those? i skipped over the really squicky scene(s). and i don't write it, either. so what am i doing posting on this particular subject? the principal of the thing, and that people really should pay closer attention to what they read.

i'm not going to name names, anonimity is safe here. i've had (at least) two people on my flist (that i know of, anyway) get busted on, ragged on, insulted, nasty comments left in their various ljs because they wrote wincest, and it was properly tagged as such.

here's the deal. proper reading skills are required to read the phrase "Pairing: Sam/Dean"... or whatever your pairing may be. there's also the phrase "Rating: Adult." these are the kind of fics i just scroll right on by, don't stop, just keep going. that's the point of this information in the header. (i'm sure many many people skip over my "gen" or "Dean/OFC; NC-17" fics.)

i don't even read it; so why would i take the time to read through a fic, and then comment, "that's sick!" or "ewww!! they're doing what????" and while i believe there are some things that should not be written by sane, healthy adults, i'm not being forced to read it.

to quote one of my favourite sayings, "I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it" (Voltaire, it's in my sidebar at my lj)

your LJ counts as freedom of speech, freedom of the press, freedom of expression, freedom of opinions, and freedom of thought. and as well it should be.

any kinds of fic is allowed to be posted here, as long as it has the proper header.

hehe, yes, exactly.

...ooh, i see you like B5, Sue Grafton... and SG1, but i only watch that now for Ben and Claudia.

(and yes, i do agree with what you have in your info.. there are some shows you watch but really aren't fandoms, per se. (SG1) sounds like me too.)

I haven't SG-1 S9. We stopped watching at the end of S8, and can't decide whether to go on. Having said that we have actually seen the three or four eps of S9, and still can't decide.

Mind you, I don't know about you, but sometimes I'm not sure what it is that takes a show from something I really, really like (B5 for example), into a fandom (NCIS), as the elements are there for both. I know there's this 'mystery' element, both in shows and pairings, that exist for me, that I just can't put my finger on and say 'yes, that's *it*).

i do know what you mean, actually. i currently watch about a dozen shows, and have watched so many over the years (in my sidebar, actuially), and have loved them all; and there are movies that i adore...

but i don't know what the trigger really has been for three shows that i go/went bugnuts over. three shows that spur me to write fic, and go all out. hell, i'm getting a tv show on DVD thanks to that fandom. (actor, really. it's his fault)

Oh, yes, the fanfic is most definitely a really huge part of it. In fact, now you mention it (head slaps self) that probably is the defining difference.

I have all the DVDs of B5, for example, have read the odd bit of fanfic, but have no desire to write it. One of my friends is doing the fanfic100 for Garibaldi, so I read that, and have read the odd other bit. But for writing ... Nope. So thank you, you have just helped me :-)

part of it is the fic, but my previous fandom, First Wave, i wrote 6 crossovers (including B5), but have no desire to write a B5 fic. i started one, but got three grafs in and the voices shut up.

Jensen Ackles is the actor. *guh*

actually, i wasn't quite clear on that bit with the voices. i'd crossed First Wave with 5 other fandoms (before Supernatural), but never had the desire to write fic for the other fandoms. and i LOVE LOVE LOVE Farscape. but no desire to write fic. (i've read some good stuff though)

as for Jensen, all you need to do is click on my username... and most of my pics in my icon strip, lots of my icons, and many many of my picspams are Jensen or his character from Supernatural. :D
